Aluminum Milling

Kennametal, Inc.l products engineered for high-productivity milling of aluminum include a selection of cutters and inserts designed to enable users to optimize productivity for their specific operations and workpiece materials.

Cutters are classified as performance milling (PM), high-performance milling (HPM), and high-speed milling (HSM). Aluminum or steel bodies are offered in medium or fine pitch with cutting edges positioned at the cutter periphery for high cutting stability. The cutter design, utilizing wiper inserts, permits roughing and finishing in one operation and consequent reduction of cycle times. Use of a single insert size for all basic cutter bodies enables users to reduce inventory and simplify tooling administration.

Three insert grade types—uncoated carbide, coated carbide, and PCD—provide the flexibility to choose the insert grade according to application requirements and workpiece material. Options include central coolant supply and balancing capabilities.
