Star Advantage is a purple/black thin-film coating the company says is harder, denser, more ductile, smoother, and more heat-resistant than other (Ti,Al)N coatings. It is said to run faster and harder in dry interrupted cutting applications, as well as in machining of abrasive materials such as cast aluminum alloys, nonferrous metals, stainless steels, and high alloy steels.
Also new is StarForce, a TiN/Ti(C,N) alternating multi-layer coating said to offer outstanding performance in operations such as milling and bobbing. The coating's multi-layer configuration provides increased ductility while limiting crack propagation and increasing tool life when machining abrasive and difficult-to--machine materials. It is recommended to be used in sufficiently cooled and lubricated environments.
