Kennametal, Inc. feature a modular insert blade design that permits grade interchangeability and lowers inventory costs while maintaining stability and cutting accuracy even at high feed rates, according to the manufacturer. A central locking screw speeds insert blade changes, and the insert locking mechanism is fully contained in the drill body to eliminate chip obstruction. As a result, chips form on the carbide blade, not on the steel body, helping to extend drill body life. The insert blades use a patented Sculptured Edge (SE) point geometry for high penetration rates and good chipbreaking action. English and metric size drill bodies are available, as is a wide selection of insert blades.
