TwinGrade GC1030 solid carbide drills for holemaking in stainless steel are said to deliver up to twice the penetration rate of conventional carbide drills.

The tools use dual substrate materials to provide a combination of toughness and wear resistance. The tough grade at the tool center withstands tension and pressure on the drill point. The grade at the tool periphery provides wear resistance at high surface speeds. The manufacturer states that this combination results in high speeds and feeds, without sacrificing edge security.

The drills also feature a PVD coating of Ti(C,N)+TiN that permits a wider working range in terms of speed and feed, and a curved-edge geometry that facilitates regrinding. The tools cover a diameter range of 5 to 20mm and drill lengths to 3 × D.
