Background

Companies in today’s rapidly changing business environment are often faced with an operations dilemma: how to integrate an endless collection of proprietary, legacy applications and business processes to cut costs and improve efficiency.

In 1994, the Automotive Industry Action Group took a major step forward in addressing this problem. Its “Trading Partner Data Telecommunications Protocol Position” recommended the now well-established and recognized TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) as a standard for future inter-enterprise data communications.

Since AIAG recommended this protocol many trading partners have been successful in adopting TCP/IP networks for their internal use. However, they have not been successful in extending those networks outside their own enterprise.

The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), in conjunction with Science Applications International Corporation(SAIC) developed such a system—the environment now known as ANX® service. AIAG and SAIC became partners in 1997. In late 1999 SAIC bought the rights to the system and created a wholly owned subsidiary named ANXeBusiness Corp. ANXeBusiness Corp developed the system into ANX® service. ANX® service provides suppliers and manufacturers alike with a single, secure network over which they deliver a number of collaborative applications, including real-time CAD visualization, document store and forward and directory services. The combination of a single, secure network and a set of collaborative web based applications means that businesses will realize lower production costs and new efficiencies by avoiding the expense and trouble of integrating their existing legacy systems.
