CAD/CAM System Optimized for Moldmaking

CAD/CAM System Optimized for Moldmaking

Varimetrix Corp. has rolled out VX Vision Mold Edition, a specially configured version of the company's VX Vision CAD/CAM system optimized for the design and documentation of injection and blow molds for plastic parts.

Varimetrix says the package helps mold designers and moldmakers quickly and accurately develop quotes and supporting documentation, as well as design and make molds.

Models of an electric drill and mold designed using VX Vision software. The Mold Edition package provides complete associativety between product design, mold design, and CNC machining, according to developer Varimetrix.<

Designed to use unified solid and surface modeling and integrated manufacturing applications to provide an easy-to-use mold manufacturing solution, the package includes a number of specialized tools. These include draft creation and analysis, core and cavity separation, mold base definition, shutoff creation, generation of parting lines and parting surfaces, and slide and insert design.

The Mold Edition interface helps designers optimize and manage the entire mold design process from the initial referencing or import of part geometry, all the way through generation of the design and detail drawing package. When design is completed, the CAD package integrates seamlessly with VX Vision's CAM manager to ensure accurate toolpath generation. Mold Edition also contains VX Vision's "check and heal" functions for refining the accuracy of models designed with other systems and imported into VX Vision.
