Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. SumiBreakers chipbreaker geometry is designed to extend tool life in machining of stainless steels and other tough materials. The manufacturer states that in a comparison machining stainless steel at a speed of 650 sfpm, a feed rate of 0.012 ipr and a depth of cut of 0.100-in., the geometry significantly outlasted a competitive insert.

Features of the new geometry include a high-positive rake angle and new bumpy geometry for good chip control and lower cutting forces. The geometry is available in a variety of styles to meet a range of application needs.
