From Now On, SCHUNK Is Providing Digital Twins For Toolholders

DIN 4000 is already established in the tools sector. Now comes the next step in the digitization of tool management: SCHUNK now provides the data of its standardized precision toolholders of the TENDO hydraulic expansion toolholder, TRIBOS polygonal clamping technology and SINO expansion toolholder free of charge as digital twins in standardized format based on DIN 4000.

The competence leader for gripping systems and clamping technology is thereby ensuring the consistency of the data within the entire CAD/CAM process chain and creating ideal prerequisites for simulations, collision observations, and shop floor management. While users previously had to add each toolholder manually to their tool management system, for example by adjusting layers and coordinate systems, all data is now available in standardized format and therefore for immediate use after download from the SCHUNK website. It will soon also be integrated with the current tool databases such as ToolsUnited and MachiningCloud. "With this digital service, SCHUNK is making an important contribution to streamlining the process chain, which will benefit all users of tool management systems," emphasizes Johannes Ketterer, Global Head of Business Unit Toolholding Systems & Chuck Jaws at SCHUNK. "For this purpose, all SCHUNK toolholder tapers from the economy, premium and tech sector have been standardized in accordance with the characteristic feature profile structure of DIN 4000, enabling immediate use in tool management, CAD/CAM and NC simulation systems. In addition, providers of tool presetter devices can integrate the data sets into their respective systems", says Ketterer.

Digitalization of the tool search

Only recently, SCHUNK presented a convenient Quickfinder for toolholders that significantly accelerates the search for the right toolholder. Just enter a few details about the interface, clamping diameter, projecting length, and clamping technology and the tool will provide a clearly structured list of all relevant toolholders from the most comprehensive range of toolholder technology made in Germany. With the Quickfinder, the underlying catalog program includes mechanical toolholders from the SCHUNK basic segment as well as cost-effective hydraulic expansion toolholders from the economy class up to numerous hydraulic expansion, polygonal, and expansion toolholders from the premium and tech league. At the push of a button, the free of charge online tool also provides information on suitable clamping alternatives.
