Grinder/hobber retrofit package introduced

Grinders and hobbers that are still good mechanically but not up to today's standards because of old, outmoded controls can get a new lease on life with a control renewal package from Drake Mfg. (Warren, OH).

The company's Control System: Renewal (CS:R) package is designed for NC or CNC cylindrical, surface, universal, thread, internal, and external grinders, as well as hobbers. The package includes the latest Fanuc controls, servo motors, part-program updates, installation, and training and is designed to provide control reliability and productivity, easier setup, and faster changeover.

An initial onsite survey is also provided as part of the package. Drake engineers analyze the machine's controls, motors, and programming, then develop a package with the latest controls, customized to the specific application. Several weeks later, Drake technicians come out to the user's plant, install the new control system renewal package, get the machine running, and train operators.

The result is an instant boost of improved reliability and productivity, says Drake. Setup is much easier, changeover is quicker, and productive machine time is increased with the use of new software and encoders, which control all movable axes.
