Thames Ditton, UK - Despite its 1,400 x 1,250 x 1,250 mm working envelope and 800 mm pallet capable of supporting parts weighing two tons, the new Okuma MA-800HB horizontal-spindle, twin-pallet-change machining center has been built for high-speed machining. It joins pre-existing 600, 500 and 400 size models in the range and is available in the UK through sole sales and service agent, NCMT.

The machine, which features cutting feed rates up to 50 m/min in all linear axes, will be shown for the first time in Europe at an open house to be held at Okuma's European technical center in Krefeld, near Düsseldorf, on May 8th and 9th, 2007.

Anyone from the UK interested in attending the open house on either day should contact Sam Matthews at NCMT on telephone number 020 8398 4277 or by e-mail: sammatthews@ncmt.co.uk Each trip will involve one overnight stay on the previous evening.

Live cutting demonstrations will show the technical capabilities of a range of Okuma machines including the smaller MA-500 and -400 machining centers, and four large mill-turn centers, the B-axis milling spindle models Multus B440 and B300, and MacTurn 550 and 350 with conventional live turrets. The manufacturer's advanced temperature compensation systems for machine structure and spindle will feature strongly, as well as its market-leading crash avoidance software.
