Hydrostatic Spindles
Available with either a built-in motor or external drive, the spindles are said to combine large cutting forces at low spindle speeds with high accuracy productivity at high spindle speed. They range from units with a sleeve diameter of 80-mm and maximum speed of 80,000 rpm to large units with a sleeve diameter of 280-mm and max speed of 15,000 rpm. The same spindles can be used for roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing. All have a high resistance to overloading and crashes.
According to the manufacturer, the spindles' rotational accuracy is within 1 µm. Grinding applications can expect a rotational accuracy of less than 0.08 µm, and a synchronous error motion within 0.03 µm. The units' high static stiffness and good vibration resistance are said to result in high accuracy and excellent surface finish.
