Mate Precision announces fully guided tool system for all thick turret punch presses
The Ultra tool system is designed with accurate and close tolerances between guide and stripper to hold punches rigid, control against hole distortion and overcome side load and twisting pressures.

Key to the Ultra tool system's operation is the system's stripper opening. It is only .0015-in. (0.04 mm) total clearance to the point, which supports the punch and guides it at the point. This increases hole accuracy, improves stripping and prevents scrap from rising into the tool assembly.
According to Mate design engineers, guiding the punch point is most critical when the point is shaped as a long narrow width. The point is where the pressures are exerted first and are greatest. The objective of punch point guiding is to prevent any lateral movement of the punch.
Additional features include clamp-clearing capability for the 3.5-in. D and 4.5-in. E station size tools. These tools have the stripper and the die designed with a relief to allow the work holder clamps to travel between the stripper and the die. This extends the punchable work surface to areas closer to the work holder clamps without repositioning the sheet.
Quick length adjustment is another important feature of the Ultra fully guided tool system. The operator simply pushes a button and rotates the punch head to preset lengths.
Hardened and ground guides reduce abrasive action of punching, defusing heat effectively, resisting galling and extending both tool and turret life. The tools themselves are precision machined from specially formulated high-speed tool steel using a specially developed heat treatment process. This results in very high tool performance, superior dimensional accuracy and maximum tool life. These Ultra fully guided tools also incorporate Mate's Slug Free die design, which clears the slug every cycle, thereby eliminating slug pulling and extending tool life.
This Ultra fully guided tool system is available in 1.25- in. B; 2-in. C; 3.5-in. D; and 4.5-in. E stations for all brand thick turret punch presses.
