Kennametal, Inc.anium diboride (TiB2)-coated grade KC5410 is designed for high speed machining of nonferrous materials with an emphasis on the finishing of soft/gummy aluminum alloys. The titanium diboride coating of grade KC5410 is harder than PVD TiN or TiAlN coatings and also resists chemical combination with aluminum. In addition, the polished surface of the grade produces chip management and resistance to buildup on the cutting edge. According to the company, this results in longer tool life and better surface finishes. This grade is available in both ground periphery and molded geometry insert styles.
