Sandvik Coromant Silent Tools Wins A Recognition Award

Wilhelm Haglund medal given to developer behind vibration-dampened tooling

Anders Digernes from Sandvik Machining Solutions has been named Product Developer of the Year and recipient of Norway’s prestigious Wilhelm Haglund medal 2015. Digernes receives the award for the development of a new generation of the technology behind vibration-dampened tools – Silent Tools.

"I am truly honored by the acknowledgement. However, innovation and results are never achieved by one person. I share the honor with many colleagues that have worked hard to achieve these results,” says Digernes.

Silent Tools is the trademark for a family of tool holders for turning, milling, boring and drilling. The tool holders are designed to minimize vibrations through a dampener inside the tool body.

"What is being rewarded here is a good example of successful product development. The new generation of Silent Tools, possess a unique patented solution, enabling our customers to obtain the highest performance for long tools. This generation of tools will strengthen our leading position on the market within customer segments with strong growth,” says Olle Wijk, Head of Group Sandvik R&D.

The award was presented at Sandvik's Annual General Meeting on 7 May in Sandviken, Sweden.
