SCHUNK Introduces TRIBOS RM Toolholder With Small Dimensions For High Speed Applications

Morrisville, NC - SCHUNK Inc. introduces a new addition to its TRIBOS toolholding family, TRIBOS-RM. This new toolholder is suitable for cutting at speeds up to 50,000 rpm while offering superior run-out accuracy of less than 3 microns. The compact design of the toolholder makes TRIBOS-RM the perfect holder for applications where low interference is required.

The clamping principle of TRIBOS-RM toolholders is based on the elastic forces of material to clamp the tool shank. The clamping process can be done within 30 seconds by means of a clamping device, either the manual device SVP-2 or the automatic clamping device SVP-3, together with corresponding reduction inserts.

The run-out accuracy and repeatability of the toolholder is less than 3 microns. Due to the rotational symmetric design, a basic counter balance of less than 4 g/mm is guaranteed. TRIBOS RM offers all the benefits of the existing TRIBOS toolholding family. Since the TRIBOS system has no movable components, it is absolutely maintenance free and the user will appreciate the long tool life. With a feed rate of up to 20 m/min, machining times are reduced to a minimum. Improved surface finish with faster feed-rates result in less tool breakage and increased throughput.

TRIBOS RM is available with the interfaces HSK-E 25, HSK-E 32, and HSK-E 40. Cutting tools can be clamped down to a shank diameter of 3 mm.

By complementing the existing TRIBOS line with an additional line of toolholders, SCHUNK opens new possibilities for machining electrodes as well as in the die & mold industry.
