Small Tools Made Stronger

untitled

In producing the X•treme DM micro drills, the tool developers at Walter AG have succeeded in bringing the "extreme" performance of the X•treme drill family to the 2 to 2.95 mm diameter range.

This addition to the range fills the gap in the drilling depth increments. Typical applications include drilled holes for lubrication, cooling and venting, and nozzle bores. The range is now completed by the 16 x D and 30 x D drilling depths. In addition, the 2 to 2.95 mm diameters are available for all drilling depths (until now 2 mm was only available below 25 x D).

Walter has succeeded in bringing the outstanding performance of the X•treme family to these small diameters thanks to coordinated features that are exceptional for this tool category: Firstly, the micro drills have internal cooling, just as their larger counterparts. Furthermore, optimised point geometry with special cutting edge preparation and precisely dimensioned flute geometry ensure perfect chip formation and, therefore, very high process reliability. The polished surface of the flutes also supports excellent chip evacuation. A coating based on aluminium titanium nitrite counteracts wear and increases tool life. The X•treme Pilot 150 pilot drill and the X•treme M for hole depths of 5 x D are fully coated with  the AML coating and the models for deeper holes have  the AMP tip only coating.
