A Team Of Experts For Tool Grinding

During tool grinding, microns decide on the quality of the manufactured cutting edges. In order to achieve optimum results in sharpening dull tools, the right selection of toolholder is imperative.
A favorable and slim interfering contour for an unhindered machining area of the grinding wheel is needed. High clamping forces at a low clamping depth and a high metal removal are characteristics which every tool grinder desires. Also needed are large clamping depths for mounting special tools and high run-out and repeat accuracies. With its grinding holder program, SCHUNK comes up to these requirement.
Since the toolholder nose is beveled 25°, the interfering contour of the TENDO hydraulic expansion toolholder is 40 % slimmer than other hydraulic expansion toolholders. The run-out and repeat accuracy of less than 3 microns provides an even removal of the material during the grinding process, and increases the process reliability of ground serial tools. The result is an excellent accuracy in shape and dimension at the lip of the tool, and in turn, the service life of the tool is increased. By using a TENDO toolholder, tool shanks of up to 32 mm diameter can be clamped at a depth of up to 95 mm, and combined with intermediate sleeves, the clamping possibilities are endless. Due to the easy handling, the sealed clamping screw and the long service life, SCHUNK is focusing on efficiency.
The 100 mm long tool extensions of the TRIBOS polygonal toolholder serie are designed for achieving the optimum interfering contour. They cover a clamping range from 3 mm up to 20 mm. This patented clamping technology also provides a run-out and repeat accuracy of less than 3 microns and can be clamped in all toolholders. Due to this combination, the user has a cost-effective alternative and flexiblity. The one-piece TRIBOS extensions have no wear parts and feature a long service life. On customer request, extensions can also be manufactured with a gripper collar, which makes them suitable for the automatic loading of grinding machines with a gripping system.
If both toolholder systems are combined, the user has twice as many advantages. The TENDO hydraulic expansion toolholder dampens vibrations and the TRIBOS extension is perfectly aligned with the tool blank. The TRIBOS extension provides minimum interfering contours. Due to the good run-out accuracy of this combination, a precise tool geometry is achieved.
