Norton introduces abrasives product line for composite industry

A new line of abrasive products and accessories for the composite industry are said to offer faster cut rates and better durability than comparable products.

Norton Company's offering of random orbital sanding paper discs includes lightweight (B and C) and heavyweight (E and F). B and C weight discs are designed for all surface finishing and repair applications, such as removal of imperfections from uncoated parts and primer parts, repair of painted parts, and repair of gel-coated parts.

The No-Fil Magnum A275-Heat Treated A/O disc, the Adalox A270-Non-Stearated disc, and the Norton Gold A290-Aluminum Oxide disc all feature a premium P-graded heat-treated aluminum oxide abrasive that provides a quick, cool cut rate with extended life, Norton said.

E and F weight paper products are offered for more demanding applications where durability and edge wear are concerns. The heavier backings on the Norton SG H920-Ceramic Alumina disc, the NorZon Plus H875-Zirconia Alumina disc, and the H290-Aluminum Oxide disc provide a fast aggressive cut, durability, and reduced edge wear.

Norton also offers three types of random orbital sanding cloth discs for severe applications requiring maximum backing strength, resistance to tear and reduced edge wear. The Norton SG R981-Ceramic Alumina disc, the NorZon Plus R824/R823/R821-Zirconia Alumina disc, and Metalite R228-Aluminum Oxide disc are designed for removal of flash and seams from molded parts. Heavy-duty Y- and X-weight cotton backings increase durability and reduce edge wear.

For surface finishing, the Bear-Tex SCF surface grinding discs and belts are designed for a variety of electric and air-powered tools used to remove surface defects; remove light edge burrs, parting lines, or flashing; clean molds; and blend mill marks, tool marks or uneven edges. The gentle action of the extremely flexible Bear-Tex hand pads allows for easy removal of flashing or burrs without affecting dimension of the workpiece.

Sanding accessories in the new line include Stick and Sand Disc, Speed-Lok TR Disc, and Speed-Grip Disc back-up pads; Soft Foam Interface pads; and Disc Half Moon hand pads to enhance and improve product performance.
